FER is a non-profit organisation based in Bangkok, Thailand. Established in 1986, FER’s institutional mandate is to conduct research and produce research based documents regarding ecological issues with the perspective of sustainable development and greater participation of local communities within the Mekong Region.
 
 
TERRA a project under FER, was established in 1991 to focus on issues concerning the environment and local communities within the Mekong Region. TERRA works to support the network of NGOs and people’s organisations in the Mekong Region, encouraging exchange and alliance-building, and drawing on the experience of development and environment issues in Thailand.
 
 
Biofuel by Decree - A new report by the Ethnic Community Development Forum

JUST RELEASED 1 MAY 2008

Biofuel by Decree, a new report by the Ethnic Community Development Forum, unmasks Burma’s bio-energy fiasco. The report details how the military’s nation-wide campaign to plant eight million acres of the toxic tree Jatropha curcas for biodiesel production is resulting in forced labor, land confiscation, loss of income and food insecurity.

We are seeking people from Mekong countries and internationally to work as part of our team at TERRA. Applicants should be interested to research into key Mekong-regional policy issues such as river/water resources, land-forest and energy/hydropower, while willing to take up the task of disseminating relevant information to the general public. MRC’s looming crisis of legitimacy and relevancy challenges new CEO

 27 March 2008 Press Release – for immediate release

Today, 51 citizens groups and individuals from the six Mekong countries sent a letter to Jeremy Bird, the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Mekong River Commission (MRC) Secretariat, challenging him to solve the MRC’s crisis of legitimacy and relevancy, recently exemplified by its failure to respond to civil society concerns over plans to dam the lower Mekong mainstream.
