BANGKOK, Sept 17 (Bernama) - Thailand is participating in the Asean Energy Ministers' Meeting to be held in Laos from Sept 22 to 23.
Thailand's energy cooperation with Myanmar and Laos will form part of the meeting's agenda, Thailand News Agency (TNA) reported.
Chavalit Pichalai, director-general of Energy Policy and Planning Office (EPPO) at Ministry of Energy, said Wednesday EPPO will propose to Thai Energy Minister Narongchai Akrasanee the expansion of an energy cooperation deal with Myanmar to be brought up at next week's meeting in Laos.
The proposal includes a plan by Thailand to increase electricity purchase from Myanmar from 1,500 megawatts to 10,000 megawatts, and to widen cooperation on petroleum purchase from that country.
Sunchai Khamnoonset, governor of state-run Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), told reporters Thailand will discuss with Laos changes in relation to sourcing electricity from that country.
